Caregiver corner
Caring for someone you love.
Whether it's a parent who is becoming more forgetful or a partner going through a difficult season, caring for someone is one of the most meaningful, and most tiring, things you'll do.
We've gathered practical tips and Singapore support services in one place, so you know where to turn.
If you're worried, start with a doctor.
Changes in memory, mood, sleep or behaviour can have many different causes, and many of them can be helped. A GP or polyclinic is the best first step. They can assess what's going on and refer you to a specialist clinic if needed.
Everyday tips
Small things that make days easier.
Keep a steady routine
Regular times for meals, walks and rest make each day more predictable and less stressful, for both of you.
Make home easier
Good lighting, clear walkways, labelled cupboards and a visible calendar or whiteboard help everyday life run smoothly.
Eat well, together
Balanced meals with vegetables, fish, nuts and whole grains, and plenty of water. Sharing meals is also a good time to talk.
Protect sleep, yours too
A calm evening routine, less screen time before bed and daytime sunlight all help. Your own rest matters just as much.
Stay connected
Familiar music, old photos, simple games, community activities and regular visits from friends keep days engaging.
Take real breaks
You can't pour from an empty cup. Ask family to share the load, and look into respite and day care services.
